Phenomenal: Paris wins the Streif downhill, Fill comes fourth

“A frozen lake that you put up. And then the skiers race down.” ORF commentator Armin Assinger used these words to describe the notorious Streif. And indeed the race track in Kitzbühel on Saturday was icy, hard as pimples – and a real spectacle.

A spectacle for the neutral spectator, a ski festival for the South Tyrolean fan. The local athletes left their mark on the Streif run in a big way. It was Peter Fill who made the hearts of South Tyrolean ski fans beat faster for the first time when he conjured up the first really strong time in the Austrian snow with start number five.

Four numbers later, powerhouse Dominik Paris started at the start, who was still a little behind in the upper part of the route, but got better and better as the journey went on, especially in the final part, and finally overcame Fill to the thunderous cheers of the finish area, which was filled to bursting 0,40 seconds from first place.

Two Frenchmen prevent the total South Tyrolean triumph They both had to worry for a long time at the finish, but many athletes initially bit their teeth because of the strong times. Beat Feuz, who was 77 hundredths of a second ahead of Paris, became really dangerous, but fell in the final part. When there was already a strong smell of a big sensation, i.e. a South Tyrolean double victory, the big moment arrived for two Frenchmen. Valentin Giraud Moine with start number 24 and Johan Clarey with 20, both of whom had never been on the podium this year, surprisingly took positions two and three and pushed Fill out of the top three.

While the man from Castelrotto was somewhat disappointed, Paris could no longer contain his joy. The Streif is now something of a living room for the Ultner. In 2013 he won the downhill, in 2015 the Super-G, and he also came second in the fastest discipline that year.

Christof Innerhofer touched the net in the upper part of the route and was briefly unbalanced, which is why his chances of a good placement were gone. But he already achieved his target on Friday with second place in the Super-G.

He did it again: Dominik Paris came up trumps in the most important race of the Alpine Ski World Cup in Kitzbühel on Saturday and won the golden chamois for the second time in his career. Peter Fill ended up fourth.
