Pinturault reaches for home win - Azzurri are chasing

With his ride, Pinturault laid the foundation for winning the giant slalom in his home country for the first time. The technician from Courchevel won the slalom in Val-d'Isère four years ago. He could continue the successful streak of the French, who have already dominated the last three World Cup giant slaloms. With the exception of Stefan Luitz from Germany and the Austrian Marcel Hirscher, all competitors lost more than a second. The second and third place finishers are also the only ones who can still challenge Pinturault for victory.

However, the start of the Italian team is far from the top places. Manfred Mölgg from Enneberg was the best with 18th place. He is almost two seconds behind. With Riccardo Tonetti (25th), who was allowed to start in starting group one for the first time, and Florian Eisath (30th), two more South Tyroleans qualified for the second run. However, Simon Maurberger and Hannes Zingerle are no longer there. They didn't reach the finish line.
