Pinturault screws up the Norwegian festival

The infamous Gran Risa proved to be a bad place for the home team on Sunday. Only one athlete, Riccardo Tonetti from Bolzano, qualified for the decision. He then set off a real fireworks display in the second round, set the fastest time and improved by 12 positions. However, the South Tyrolean had nothing to do with the podium finishes - in contrast to the Norwegians, who, like in Val Gardena, presented themselves extremely well as a team. But the victory went to a Frenchman, namely Alexis Pinturault. On the course, which was somewhat easier than in the first round, Tonetti made his turns in his usual calm manner and took the best time from Semyel Bissig, who had shown a strong performance. The 31-year-old made himself comfortable in the winner's chair, left runner after runner behind him - and came 11th to save the honor of the beleaguered national team. Pinturault shows no nerves The fight for the podium positions was opened by Justin Murisier, who was in 11th position after the first round. His record stood for a long time - also because the slope became increasingly difficult. Only when last year's overall European Cup winner Atle Lie McGrath left the starting gate did Murisier's mark wobble. Not only did it wobble, it was undercut. The 20-year-old saved his lead thanks to an unleashed drive to the finish. Marco Odermatt, who was still in third place at half time, was unable to intercept McGrath. The son of an American and a Norwegian woman could hardly believe his luck when Filip Zubcic also ranked behind him. The sensational victory was in the air. However, half-time leader Pinturault had something against it, as he was able to keep McGrath at bay despite numerous mistakes. He won the race by 3 hundredths of a second, Murisier came third.
