Pinturault's pageant continues - Flo and Ricky race into the top 10

His second run was almost perfect: ideal line, safe on the skis and, especially in the difficult passages, as experienced as an old hand. That Pinturault is in the form of his life is shown by the fact that he conjured up a fabulous ride in the snow in both the first and second runs. In the end, the Frenchman was 1,14 seconds ahead of his first pursuer Marcel Hirscher. “The drivers are having a bitter battle for hundredths, and suddenly Pinturault comes along and makes us all look like idiots,” Hirscher summed it up aptly in an ORF interview after the race. The 24-year-old Frenchman thus completed his third victory from the last three giant slalom races, after being successful in Yuzawa Naeba two weeks ago and in the first race in Hinterstoder on Friday. The podium was completed by Henrik Kirstoffersen, who still has a small chance of winning the overall World Cup, even if it is unlikely that Marcel Hirscher will let his 283 point lead be taken away.

Eisath and Tonetti shine Due to Pinturault's show of force, the results of Florian Eisath and Riccardo Tonetti took a back seat. The performances of the two South Tyroleans were very strong: Eisath, in 12th place in the first round, improved by four positions in his second appearance and finished the race in eighth place. With his fourth top 10 place in this year's giant slalom season, he once again proved that, despite his 31 years, he is far from being a thing of the past. Riccardo Tonetti also made a leap forward after finishing 15th in the first round and finished in 10th place. It was also his fourth top 10 placement this season. Dominik Paris and Simon Maurberger were unable to qualify for the second round, while Manfred Mölgg was eliminated in the first round.
