Bankruptcies, bad luck and a breakdown show in Madonna – Yule wins

The victory went to Daniel Yule from Switzerland. It is the first slalom victory for the Swiss in eleven years, the first World Cup victory for the 25-year-old from French-speaking Switzerland. So far, Yule has only won the team competition with Switzerland at the 2016 final in St. Moritz. The Austrians Marco Schwarz and Michael Matt took second and third place.

Razzoli and Mölgg in top 7 The best “Azzurro” is 2010 Olympic slalom champion Giuliano Razzoli in fifth place, who was able to qualify for the second run with the high start number 69. Manfred Mölgg from Enneberg came sixth, but didn't seem satisfied with his performance at the finish. The young Alex Vinatzer from Val Gardena was eliminated in the second round and was still in eighth place at halftime. The 19-year-old risked too much in the second round and was in trouble from the start.

Simon Maurberger can look forward to his best career result in the slalom. The Ahrntaler was in 26th place at half time, drove extremely cautiously in the second round and, benefiting from the many failures, slipped up to 20th place. So far, 22nd place in Levi in November was his best World Cup result in slalom. Fabian Bacher was eliminated in the first run. Curious finish Stefano Gross started the mishap show, the “Azzurro” scored the last goal in the second run. Then things happened in quick succession: First Kristoffersen (second after the first run) threaded his way into the second goal in the second round. Then half-time leader Marcel Hirscher started the race – and scored in the fifth goal!

This continues the series of curiosities in Madonna di Campiglio: In 2001 it crashed Bode Miller his car and then celebrated his debut victory in the slalom. At the 2015 Slalom, Marcel Hirscher was almost killed by a crashing drone during his ride.

There has probably never been anything like this! At the night slalom in Madonna di Campiglio, the leaders after the first run, Marcel Hirscher and Henrik Kristoffersen, were eliminated in the second run.
