Podium and speedster: Vinatzer's adventurous season

Alex Vinatzer is also spending the Corona period at home. “Logically you can’t do too much,” explains the Wolkensteiner. “Luckily I have a weight room where I can do a bit of training. Otherwise, I spend time in the garden or turn on the games console,” says the 20-year-old.

Last season, Vinatzer finally made his breakthrough in the Ski World Cup, as evidenced by 5 top 15 results. “It was a good season. I have achieved my goals. It's just a shame that the winter ended without a race,” regrets the slalom specialist. The big highlight of last winter was his first podium place in the premier ski class . He came third in the Zagreb slalom at the beginning of January. “It was a nice day. “But I didn’t have much time to celebrate at the time because the slalom took place in Madonna just a few days later,” recalls Vinatzer. Only a few seconds later I saw on the big screen that the lady was on the slopes,” explains Vinatzer with a smile.

“Our hospitality team (the area where the athletes stay during the two races, editor's note) was very close to the police station, so I went there and asked them for a photo.” With his sympathetic reaction Vinatzer had played his way into the hearts of many fans back then.

The young man from Val Gardena has already set his sights on the next ski winter. He is clear about his goal: “Now I want to win a race. I also want to get into the top 7 on the starting list, I’m currently in 11th position.” Vinatzer definitely has what it takes.
