Polemical ski resignation: “Thank you for excluding me”

Very few ski fans are likely to be familiar with Stefano Baruffaldi. In his career he was mainly involved in FIS races, but ultimately made eight World Cup appearances (one each in Alta Badia and Val Gardena), where he scored points for the first time last season with a 24th place in the giant slalom in Santa Caterina in the premier ski class. Now the skier from Dervio (Lombardy) has decided to quit at the age of 28. Even though his career may not seem spectacular at first glance, there is something extraordinary about it. In recent years, Baruffaldi has made his way as a professional skier, even though he was neither part of the national team nor a sports group. Ergo: The giant slalom specialist had to finance everything himself from start to finish. The fact that he took part in six of his eight World Cup races last year shows that he has a lot of tenacity. A swipe towards FISI But now it's over. “It was a hard decision because skiing has been my life to this day. But unfortunately it is no longer my priority. My goals have changed and so it’s time to change my life,” he writes to his fans on social media. “I am very proud of what I have achieved. “Especially in the last few years, when I was excluded from every sports group and national team and still achieved some important results,” said Baruffaldi. At the end of the posting there was a special “thanks” to the winter sports association. “A big thank you also goes to all those who excluded me from all teams, didn’t give me a place in races and who never believed in me. Thanks to you, I realized that I could do it without your help.” Baruffaldi will now turn his back on skiing completely and join the family business, a construction company.
