Reactions to Felix Neureuther's resignation

Alfons Hörmann (DOSB President): “Felix Neureuther has had a decisive influence on alpine skiing in Germany and internationally over the past 15 years. Not only has he reached great heights in terms of performance, but he has also overcome numerous injury-related setbacks with great willpower. With him, Sporting Germany has lost one of its defining faces as an athlete, but we can only hope that we will continue to have him at the side of the sport in another capacity.” Marcel Hirscher (eight-time overall World Cup winner): “Felix is incredibly talented, but what has always fascinated me is the human side. He always helped me, always gave me advice and support - even when we were big competitors. He’s an impressively fine guy.”

Wolfgang Maier (DSV Alpine Director): “Felix was a ski genius, a brilliant skier and something very special. He had more skills than anyone else. Now I no longer have a star in my eyes, and there is a certain sadness about that. We were always really happy that we had him. He was - also because of his personality - always the protective shield for the team. His departure is an extreme loss. It’s not like the lights are going out now, things will continue without Felix, but they will be different.”

Mathias Berthold (DSV head coach): “I congratulated him on his decision, he’s happy with it, then it’s the right thing to do. He knew deep down he no longer had the motivation. But you do get a little nostalgic when you know what possibilities he still has. It was a really cool time, I appreciate Felix primarily for his personality outside of the sport, but he was also important for us as a winning driver.”

Thomas Müller (2014 soccer world champion): “Thank you for the many great moments, Felix. All the ski fans have followed your fantastic rides with enthusiasm for years.”
