Rebensburg: Even after gold it wouldn't be over

Pyeongchang (SID) Ski racer Viktoria Rebensburg will not end her career even after another Olympic gold medal in Pyeongchang. "I've actually been thinking about the matter for the last few months, but definitely: no! That won't happen. I'm still having so much fun, I love my sport and enjoying it, that doesn't depend on the Olympics for me off," said the 28-year-old in the SID interview. Rebensburg (Kreuth) won gold in the giant slalom at her first Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010 and followed up with bronze in her flagship discipline in Sochi in 2014. In South Korea on February 12th, she could become only the second woman to become giant slalom Olympic champion for the second time in the first race, after Deborah Compagnoni (Italy). But such historical marks are "definitely not on my mind," said Rebensburg: "For me, it's a race like any other. There's a start, there are blue and red gates, and I try to drive through them as quickly as I can." The performance density in the "giant" is "extremely high," she said: "I think it's even the highest, there are many podium candidates. It's the biggest challenge to be at the front, everything has to be right." An advantage for her is that the speed races don't start as usual. "If you look at the last major events, it was the case that in the first week I always had to manage the balancing act between speed and giant slalom. That's no longer the case and also favors the speed competitions. I think that's one thing "It's a great starting point," she said. On the window sill in the living room where she keeps her medals and crystal balls, Rebensburg said there could still be room for more medals: "That's the least of the problems in the whole thing."
