Reinswald: Biesemeyer wins the downhill, Brandner the combination

The American Thomas Biesemeyer was unbeatable on Wednesday morning on the 2301 meter long Schöneben piste with a 540 meter difference in altitude. The 30-year-old American set a best time of 30:1.12,75 minutes on his 24th European Cup appearance and won a race in the second highest competition series in alpine skiing for the first time. Biesemeyer relegated Aosta's Henri Battilani to second place. The 87-year-old from Gressan, who made it into the top three for the first time in his 3th European Cup race, missed the day's victory by just 18 hundredths of a second. The podium was completed by Austrian Christoph Krenn, who was 0,21 seconds slower than Biesemeyer.

As the best South Tyrolean racer, Florian Schieder (Castelrotto) came in 24th place. He was 1,03 seconds behind the fastest of the day. Alexander Prast (Bolzano/26th) and Dominik Zuech (Lana/30th) also got European Cup points from the local speed riders. With Peter Fill and Werner Heel, two prominent South Tyrolean racing drivers were in action in Reinswald as forerunners.

Brandner combines the best Wednesday's descent also counted as the second round for the Alpine Combined, which began with the slalom on Tuesday. Here Christof Brandner came out on top with a total time of 1.50,82:24 minutes. The 23-year-old German set the best time in the slalom. Second place went to the Frenchman Sam Alphand, who lost 3 hundredths of a second to the day's winner. Alphand, who made it into the top XNUMX for the first time in the European Cup, also finished the slalom in second place. Meanwhile, the Swiss Stefan Rogentin came third, who was a hundredth of a second slower than Alphand in the Sarntal.

The best “Azzurro” and at the same time the fastest South Tyrolean in the Alpine Combined was Alexander Prast from Bolzano. The 22-year-old ultimately took tenth place.

The European Cup in Reinswald continues on Thursday with another downhill run. The start will take place again at 11 a.m. On Friday the Sarner Speed Week will conclude with a Super-G.
