Reinswald: European Cup will be held (almost) as planned

The tenth anniversary edition of the European Cup races in Reinswald opened on Sunday evening with a small but nice celebration in the Reinswald village hall. 130 participants from 21 nations have registered for the races of the second most important racing series in the Sarntal. These include some Olympic participants such as the two brothers Morgan and Conrad Pridy from Canada, who will go straight to Sochi after the EC competitions in Reinswald.

The first and only downhill training will take place on Monday, February 3rd at 11 a.m. Due to the heavy snowfall in the past few days, the start had to be moved downhill and is now located slightly above the mountain station of the cabin lift at the “Pichlberg” Alm. “There was over a meter of fresh snow here in Reinswald, especially at higher altitudes. But the piste workers did an excellent job and cleared the snow from the race track. It is thanks to them that we can hold these races here at all,” said OC boss Konrad Stauder from the Race Center Sarntal on Sunday.

Reinswald is making up for one of the runs on Patscherkofel that was canceled due to lack of snow. 24 hours later, on Wednesday, the “real” descent on the “Plankenhorn” is on the program. Thursday is all about the Super-Combi. After a descent in the morning (10 a.m.) on a shortened race track, a challenging slalom will take place in the finish slope in the afternoon, which will demand everything from the young talents from 13 p.m.

The European Cup in Reinswald traditionally ends on Friday with the Super-G. A race that has always been characterized by very tight time intervals. Perhaps the most exciting race in this discipline ever took place on the Plankenhorn slope: in 2008, when the American Christopher Beckmann won, no fewer than 47 athletes were within just a single second. The starting signal will be fired half an hour earlier, at 9.30:XNUMX a.m.
