Reinswald returns to the European Cup stage

From February 1st to 5th, 2016, the second most important racing series in alpine skiing will once again pitch its tents in Reinswald and determine the winners in four European Cup races in the fast disciplines on the Plankenhorn piste. The Sarn European Cup week begins with two training days, on Monday, February 1st and Tuesday, February 2nd. Wednesday, February 3rd is all about departure. The super combined is on the program on Thursday, February 4th, with the combined downhill being counted as a separate downhill race. Traditionally, the Sarn European Cup week will finally conclude with the Super-G on Friday, February 5th.

The skiing takes place on the 3650 meter long Plankenhorn piste, which has an altitude difference of around 2460 meters from the start at the “Sattele” at 840 meters above sea level to the finish at the valley station and is roughly comparable to the Saslong from this point of view. The Plankenhorn piste is not very technically demanding. In the Sarntal, gliding skills are even more required and with a journey time of more than two minutes, the young racers also have to be in top shape.

Reinswald for the eleventh time in the European Cup calendar

Reinswald has a long tradition in the European Cup. Eleven years ago, European Cup races were held for the first time in the Sarnen ski area. In 2005 there was a downhill or a women's Super-G. Two years later, in January 2007, the male speed specialists came to Sarntal for the first time and regularly held European Cup races there until February 2014. After ten editions, the tried and tested organization around Konrad Stauder took a break last year.

The most prominent winners in Reinswald were the former and now no longer active Super-G world champion Patrick Staudacher (ITA/Pflersch) and three-time winner Johann Clarey from France, who regularly scores points in the World Cup and finished in the top ten 26 times in his career. With the Swiss Carlo Janka, an Olympic champion (giant slalom 2010 in Vancouver) and former world champion (also in the giant slalom 2009 in Val d'Isère) climbed onto the podium in Sarntal, as did the Austrian Georg Streitberger, who has achieved three World Cup victories in his career to date .
