Reinswald completes the dozen in the European Cup

The Sarner Speed Week will be held for the 12th time this year. Since 2006, with the exception of 2015, the European Cup has pitched its tents in the South Tyrolean ski area without interruption. Last year, the European Cup finals in the fast disciplines were even organized in Reinswald - an accolade for the busy organizers around OC boss Richard Moser. “We are of course very pleased that we can organize European Cup races again. The organizing committee is already working feverishly on implementing our plans. Of course, we still have a lot of work to do in the next few days, but everyone in our well-coordinated team knows exactly what they have to do,” said Moser.

The Sarner Speed Week starts on Monday, February 19th with downhill training. Tuesday, February 20th will be dedicated to the race in the “supreme discipline” of alpine skiing. On Wednesday, February 21st, European Cup points will be awarded in the Alpine Combined, while the European Cup week in Sarntal traditionally ends with the Super-G. This year there are two races in this discipline on the new competition program on Thursday, February 22nd and Friday, 23rd February, which will be officially confirmed by the FIS in the next few days.

The Schöneben piste is well prepared As in the previous year, the races will be held on the well-prepared Schöneben piste, starting at the Pichlberg mountain station and finishing at the valley station in Reinswald. “I think this is the ideal solution to guarantee great sporting competitions and at the same time not noticeably affect tourist skiing. Guests and locals who enjoy a day of skiing in Reinswald have the opportunity to look over the shoulders of the best young athletes and some veterans who were not nominated for the Olympics. We are looking forward to many fans,” continued Moser.

The Schöneben piste has been an essential part of the new training center in Reinswald since the beginning of this winter. Under the guidance of top South Tyrolean trainers Hansjörg Plankensteiner and Franz Gamper, who were supported by young coach Stefan Rungger, young talents have been trying their hand at the speed disciplines over the past few weeks. The two reigning downhill world champions, the Swiss Beat Feuz and Patrick Küng, also trained in the Sarnen ski area, as did the Val Gardena sensational Super-G winner Josef Ferstl and the American Steven Nyman.
