Reinswald is preparing for the European Cup

For the 16th time, the second highest racing series in Alpine skiing will be setting up its tents in the heart of South Tyrol and for the fifth time after 2005, 2006, 2017 and 2020, it will be the women who will race for points for the overall ranking on the Schöneben piste. After a year of absence due to the corona pandemic, people in Sarntal are euphoric about the return of the ski ladies. “The preparations are all going according to plan, the slopes are in perfect condition,” says the coordinator of the European Cup in Reinswald, Luis Hofer. Numerous ski professionals who stayed in shape over the holidays in Sarntal were also able to confirm this. “The teams from Germany, Switzerland and Sweden were here recently and held their training on the slopes. Everyone was very happy with the snow and piste conditions, which of course makes us very happy two and a half weeks before the competitions,” says Hofer. The last European Cup in Reinswald two years ago was dominated by a woman: the Austrian Nadine Fest won both Super-Gs, and she also came second in the Alpine Combined, which was also held at that time, behind the Norwegian Kristina Riis-Johannessen, who is now her Career ended. It looked similar in the European Cup rankings after the 2019/20 season: Fest won the overall ranking as well as the downhill, super-G and combined rankings. Since then she has been part of the red-white-red World Cup squad and is unlikely to come to defend her title if she takes part in the Winter Olympics in Beijing. Strict Corona precautions A big topic in the run-up to the 16th edition of the European Cup races in Sarntal is of course the corona pandemic. Since the FIS passport is used in Reinswald, as is the case in the World Cup, nothing stands in the way of a smooth process. The FIS Passport is a digital ID card onto which all participating athletes, coaches and supervisors can upload their vaccination status and the results of corona tests, which they must take shortly before competitions. In addition, all employees who could come into contact with the racers must undergo a PCR test in advance of the Sarn European Cup stage - for example at the start, in the finish area or in the race office. While the women's Super-G's take place on the Schöneben slope (the start is at 10 a.m. on both race days), normal skiing continues on the remaining slopes of the Reinswald ski area. The Super Green Pass (2G) is required for entry anyway, which is why you can also take part in the European Cup event at the start, on the route or at the finish.

The women's European Ski Cup in Sarntal is getting closer and closer. On Thursday, February 3rd and Friday, February 4th, two Super-Gs will be held in the Reinswald ski area.
