Reinswald becomes an international speed training center

From December, young downhill skiers will have excellent training conditions on the newly designed Schöneben slope in Reinswald. Young ski racers aged 17 and over can work on their technical skills under the guidance of Hansjörg Plankensteiner and Franz Gamper.

“The young racing drivers have the opportunity to train with us in the fast disciplines one to two weeks per month. The Schöneben piste in Sarntal is available to us from Monday to Thursday in the morning - without us disrupting tourist ski operations. The young athletes' individual training rides are timed and filmed. In the afternoon, a detailed analysis is carried out via video study,” explains coordinator Hansjörg Plankensteiner, who accompanied Hanna Schnarf, Lucia Recchia and the Olympic medalist and world champion Christof Innerhofer as a coach from adolescence to the top of the world. Plankensteiner is supported by the Ultner coaching legend Franz Gamper, who made, among others, Aksel Lund Svindal and Kjetil Jansrud into world stars. The third trainer in the group is the young Sarner Stefan Rungger.

The respective ski trainers can be involved upon request The athletes' respective trainers are not excluded from the training process in Reinswald. “The racers can come alone or bring their trainers, who we are happy to incorporate into the various units. We would like to work with a maximum of 15 racers in order to offer them maximum quality. “Boys who have 120 FIS points in either the downhill or super-G are eligible to take part; for girls it is 110 points in one of the two fast disciplines,” continued Plankensteiner.

The Pusterer is very enthusiastic about the progressive Sarner initiative and says confidently: “This training structure is unique in this form. It's great that young racers now have the opportunity to prepare for their appearances in the fast disciplines and don't have to jump into the deep end, i.e. stand on downhill skis for the first time in an FIS race, as has already happened in some cases. I am convinced that there will be a huge rush to our training center. We will of course try to accommodate all interested athletes. Registrations are possible up to five days before the first day of training.”

So that the training center can start at the start of the 2017/18 season, intensive work was carried out in Reinswald in the summer months and a lot of money was invested. In the ski area in the Sarntal, the Schöneben piste was improved for safety reasons, on which the European Cup points were skied for the first time in the fast disciplines at the European Cup final last winter. Another measure to increase safety was the installation of permanent safety nets at critical points.
