Records, threader affair, drone gate: Hirscher's career

9. March 2007: Marcel Hirscher is crowned junior world champion in giant slalom on the Hermann Maier World Cup race course in Flachau and thus gets a starting place in the World Cup.

17. March 2007: Hirscher will be taking part in the concert of the greats for the first time at the season finale in Lenzerheide. He finishes 24th in the giant slalom.

9. March 2008: First podium finish in the World Cup. Hirscher finished third in the Kranjska Gora slalom behind winner Manfred Mölgg and Ivica Kostelic.

December 13, 2009: At the age of 20, the Salzburg native is celebrating his first victory in the World Cup in the giant slalom.

February 6, 2011: Roughly braked: Hirscher falls in the giant slalom in Hinterstoder and breaks his scaphoid bone. The season is over before the climax of the World Cup.

January 2012: A text message that was leaked to the Kronen Zeitung triggers the so-called threader affair. Hirscher is said to have orchestrated his victories in Zagreb and Adelboden, which cannot be clearly proven even by slow motion with x-fold magnification. Ivica Kostelic adds fuel to the fire with taunts in Kitzbühel. The reconciliation will take place publicly in Schladming.

17. March 2012: Earlier than expected, Hirscher succeeded Benjamin Raich as the last ÖSV overall World Cup winner. He will then get another seven big balls in a row.

February 17, 2013: Hirscher becomes the nation's sports hero: He wins the slalom that concludes the home World Championships in Schladming and thus "redeems" the skiing nation, which had until then remained without a gold medal.

February 2014: Late relief in Sochi. Hirscher only came fourth in the Olympic giant slalom, but after catching up, he won silver in the slalom.

Shocking moment: Marcel Hirscher is almost hit by a drone in Madonna.

February 22, 2015: In the second slalom run of the night slalom in Madonna di Campiglio, a camera drone crashes onto the slope directly behind Hirscher. A shocking moment that barely has any consequences.

March 2015: The World Cup season ends with Hirscher's fourth overall victory in a row. No one has ever achieved this before him.

February 2017: Hirscher as a medal hamster. At the World Championships in St. Moritz he won two gold medals (giant slalom, slalom) and silver in the combination. The World Cup season ends triumphantly with the sixth overall victory and the technical double of giant slalom and slalom.

August 2017: Hirscher broke his ankle in a training fall on the Mölltal Glacier and had to drastically shorten his preparation program for the Olympic winter.

December 3, 2017: He makes a sensational comeback. 108 days after breaking his ankle, Hirscher wins the Beaver Creek giant slalom. He struck in the second race after his injury.

February 2018: The success puzzle is complete. Hirscher is crowned double Olympic champion at the Pyeonchang Winter Games with gold in combination and giant slalom.

October 6, 2018: Hirscher becomes a father for the first time. The son's name is kept secret from the public, private matters remain private.

February 17, 2019: Hirscher becomes the most successful athlete at the Alpine Ski World Championships. Thanks to gold in the slalom in Aare, the Salzburg man now surpasses compatriot Toni Sailer (7/1/0) in the men's all-time World Cup list with seven gold and four silver medals.

4. September 2019: Resignation at the climax. Hirscher is retiring from skiing at the age of 30 as a two-time Olympic champion, seven-time world champion and eight-time overall World Cup winner (67 victories).
