Riccardo Tonetti: “I want to know again”

Ricardo Tonetti is facing a new chapter in his life – at least on the slopes. In May it was announced that the South Tyrolean would no longer be part of the Italian World Cup squad. Now the 33-year-old announced another decision – he is changing his ski equipment: “I knew that Salomon was a good option because Luca De Aliprandini is there and I have only heard positive things about him. At 33 years old, it's not easy to find someone who believes in you. The Salomon representative immediately told me that they were with me and wanted to support me. Good service is important to me and I feel like that is the case with Salomon. That’s why I switched.”

However, Tonetti only has positive things to say about his old supplier Blizzard; they parted ways on good terms: “I was at Blizzard for 4 years and I always felt comfortable there and was always treated well. In the end it was a reason for motivation, I needed new motivation and wanted to start a new, fresh chapter. I also wanted to find out whether I could be faster with a different material. I want to know again.”

Tonetti wants to prove himself again on the big stage, the hunger and motivation are still there: “It really didn’t go well this season. At times I had the feeling that I was going fast, but it just wasn't enough for good results. As long as I feel like I'm still skiing well, I don't want to stop. If it's a season like last year again, it will be difficult. But I'm motivated, I still like the sport. Fun is the most important thing. He receives support from his sports group at the Finanzwache, with whom he trains diligently in the summer: “We started dry training in the spring and have already been to the Stelvio Pass a few times; we are planning to go to Switzerland to prepare . As soon as things continue in Schnals, I will be there again and get myself in good shape for Sölden.” A way back to the World Cup Tonetti wants to be ready in time for the start, but taking part in the World Cup races is not a given for him: “In the European Cup, the young athletes will be used more. For me, the goal is to return to the World Cup through qualifying races. I have already made it clear that I can take part in these races - that was important to me - and I hope that it works out for Sölden. If things go well in the first qualifying races, I will hopefully be back in the World Cup.”
