The man from Bolzano didn't take advantage of his chance yesterday and is no longer allowed to start today. Tonetti is an excellent skier, an all-rounder who can cut a fine figure in any discipline. And he has already competed in all disciplines in the World Cup. But he has also often been unable to take advantage of good opportunities, such as at the 2018 Olympic Games, when he reached for a medal but was eliminated in the second run. If there is no place for him in the World Cup, he hopes to play in the European Cup in January. So far this season he has not been allowed to start in the European Cup. The association has given preference to younger runners. What will happen next for him after this season is still unclear. Tonetti was one of 4 South Tyroleans who started on the Gran Risa yesterday. Nobody was there in the second round. This was also because the slope was no longer suitable for the higher start numbers. But there is currently no South Tyrolean who can drive with a low starting number. After all, Alex Vinatzer and Tobias Kastlunger are only 23 years old. This duo will have the task of initiating the generational change. Both are much stronger in slalom, but also have ambitions in giant slalom. The younger generation in Val Gardena was not represented at all in the descent. Florian Schieder will be 27 years old next week. After his long injury break, Schieder quickly regained his footing in the World Cup and if he stays healthy, he will bring us a lot of joy.
