65-year-old Jeff Shiffrin died unexpectedly on Sunday. “I’m so terribly sorry,” wrote Lindsey Vonn, “Jeff was always nice to me. I'm praying for you and your family." Shiffrin's current closest competitor on the ski slopes, Petra Vlhova, also commented: "Miki, I'm so sorry. My thoughts are with you and your family. Stay strong."

After this stroke of fate, Shiffrin has one Time out from skiing taken. It is still unclear how long the 24-year-old will stay away from the World Cup.
