Review 2019 | The winner of the year

Dominik Paris ended 2018 with two victories in Bormio. In the months that followed, the Ultimo speed specialist won pretty much everything there was to win in the World Cup.

Paris won three of the four following descents (Kitzbühel, Kvitfjell and Soldeu). Only in Wengen, on the traditional Lauberhorn descent, did the now 30-year-old show his weakness with 11th place. After a hard fight, Paris only had to hand over the small crystal ball, for the best downhill skier of the season, to the Swiss Beat Feuz. When the new downhill World Cup season began in November, Paris was once again on the podium in second place in Lake Louise - then the crazy weekend in Bormio followed. Paris won both downhill races, took the lead in the Downhill World Cup and, for the first time in his career, in the overall World Cup. He is now Italy's best downhill skier of all time.

In the Super-G things went even a bit better for Paris. What didn't work in the downhill, he managed in this discipline: winning the small crystal ball. However, Paris took the crown in the far north. On February 6, 2019, he was crowned Super-G world champion in Aare, Sweden - it was the first World Cup gold medal in his career. Overall, the Paris balance sheet from Christmas 2018 to Christmas 2019 looks like this: 21 starts in the World Cup, 9 victories, 3 more podium places, a crystal ball and a world championship title.
