Sarntal's ski classic in the shadow of the World Cup

The second highest competition series in alpine skiing will be pitching its tents in the Sarntal for the 14th time next week. Since their debut in 2005, the speed races have long since developed into a classic in the ski circuit. “It's no secret that athletes, coaches, supervisors and even some fans love coming to Sarntal year after year. With us you not only have excellent slope conditions. The food is – like everywhere in South Tyrol – excellent. Most of the time the weather is very good and the many volunteers are very friendly and helpful. And we are very flexible when it comes to the racing program,” says OK boss Richard Moser.

In fact: instead of the originally planned three races, four will take place in the Sarntal next week. After downhill training on Monday, February 11th, the downhill run that had to be canceled in Wengen due to the weather will be made up on Tuesday (February 12th). Another descent is scheduled for Wednesday, February 13th, before the Alpine Combined takes place the following day. Traditionally, the Sarn European Cup week in Reinswald ends with the Super-G on Friday, February 15th.

Which stars are coming to Reinswald? People in Sarntal are excited to see which stars will compete in the European Cup races. At the World Cup, each nation is allowed to send a maximum of four athletes into the race. That's why some people who stay at home could be at the start in Reinswald and train under competition conditions. However, we will only have certainty here on Sunday evening after the first team captains' meeting, when the starting numbers for training on Monday will also be drawn.

As in the previous year, the races will be held on the well-prepared Schöneben piste, starting at the Pichlberg mountain station and finishing at the valley station in Reinswald. “This solution has proven itself. On the one hand, we can guarantee great sporting competitions, but at the same time we do not have a noticeable impact on tourist skiing. Guests and locals who enjoy a day of skiing in Reinswald have the opportunity to look over the shoulders of the best young athletes and some veterans who did not qualify for the World Cup. We are looking forward to many spectators from near and far,” explains OC boss Moser in conclusion.
