Swiss ski stars with unusual Olympic preparation

Especially in the Olympic winter, you have to pay attention to all sorts of little things. Every detail could decide whether you win one of the coveted precious metals. And especially given the importance of the Winter Olympics, the Swiss trip to flat Belgium is surprising. At second glance, it's a brilliant move. Of course, the World Cup should not be neglected either. The 350 meter long indoor slope also offers excellent conditions for the ski circuit. Compared to the training camps on the glaciers, the conditions in the hall remain the same. This allows the ski stars' equipment and materials to be better coordinated.

Ramon Zenhäuser explains another trick of the Belgian training camp: “In addition, unlike on the glacier, our trainers can spray water onto the slopes with a fire hose. That’s good because in the World Cup we usually have to prove ourselves on completely icy slopes.”

Because of the preparation, the piste sometimes becomes so crisp that the coaching team has to hold back: “The surface is so icy that we could also practice slalom here on ice skates,” says Swiss Ski head coach Tom Stauffer. It remains to be seen to what extent the Swiss' special training program will ultimately be worth it. Perhaps other associations will even follow suit in their preparation.
