Heavy fall overshadows Lauberhorn training

Forerunner Marco Kohler fell in the finish S after just 2.30 minutes of driving and was flown to the hospital in the rescue helicopter. Last weekend, the 22-year-old young Swiss hope achieved 12th place in the European Cup downhill on the Lauberhorn.

The World Cup aces Urs Kryenhühl (SUI), Maxence Muzaton (FRA) and Daniel Dankelmaier (AUT) also did not reach the finish line.

Best time for Caviezel With a running time of 2.27,78:4.500 minutes, local hero Mauro Caviezel took first place on the 1 meter longest downhill run in the World Cup, just ahead of surprise man Ryan Cochran-Siegle (USA/+0,10) and Dominik Paris (+0,14). The man from Ultimo was unbeatable in the top part of the route, lost half a second in the middle part with the infamous Brüggli-S and reduced his deficit to 0,14 seconds in the last section. Just behind Paris, his teammate Mattia Casse (+0,19) came in fourth.

Peter Fill (+2,44) and Emanuele Buzzi (+2,83), who was seriously injured last year while braking at the finish, are not yet on the fastest line. The other South Tyroleans Florian Schieder (+3,65), Alexander Prast (+5,39) and Riccardo Tonetti (+7,37) reached the finish well behind. Innerhofer strong – Gisin’s comeback Christof Innerhofer showed an excellent performance. The Gaiser returned to the World Cup on the Lauberhorn around 10 months after tearing his cruciate ligament and finished 1,59rd, 23 seconds behind. The Swiss Marc Gisin was also at the start. Over a year after his horror fall in Val Gardena the speed specialist ventured onto a downhill slope again.

We can look forward to Innerhofer's downhill comeback on Saturday from 12.30 p.m. An Alpine combination is already on the program in Wengen on Friday (10.30 a.m./14 p.m.).
