Shiffrin is aiming for the next victory – Insam is making her debut

Vivien Insam might not be a big name for many South Tyrolean ski fans. No wonder, because the 20-year-old from Val Gardena's best placement this winter is tenth place in the European Cup. That was on November 30th, in Funesdalen, Sweden. Now Insam, who became Italian slalom champion at the end of the year, has a chance in the World Cup. She will be one of five Azzurre at the night slalom in Flachau.

Mölgg wants to move forward in the slalom

The second South Tyrolean in Salzburger Land will be Manuela Mölgg. The experienced Enneberger woman is also not satisfied with the way the current slalom season is going. The best placement is 21st place in Lienz. Most recently she failed to finish in Kranjska Gora. The other Azzurre in Flachau are Chiara Costazza, Irene Curtoni and Martina Peterlini from Trentino.

Can Shiffrin be beaten?

The big question in Flachau will be whether Mikaela Shiffrin will finally be able to bend. Petra Vlhova has only been able to break the American's dominance once this slalom winter. At the start in Levi, the Slovakian gave way to 22-year-old Shiffrin. At the moment it doesn't look like any other runner other than Shiffrin could win a women's technical race in the World Cup. In Kranjska Gora, Shiffrin won the slalom with a lead of 1,64 seconds. The Swedes Frida Hansdotter and Wendy Holdener are also in strong form, but they cannot come close to the incredible American. Holdener in particular despairs of Shiffrin. The Swiss woman has been on the podium 14 times in a World Cup slalom. But she has never won.
