Shiffrin show continues in Lienz

The second run was - due to the course setting - significantly more demanding than the first run. Many athletes had difficulty, and several threaders were the result. Michelle Gisin (Switzerland) had few problems and made it to the podium with a rock-solid ride. Among other things, she benefited from serious mistakes made by Norwegian Nina Haver-Løseth, who was in third place after round 2. However, there was no match against Petra Vlhova. On the course run by her coach Livio Magoni, the 1-year-old conjured up an almost perfect ride in the snow and distanced Gisin by over a second.

The Slovakian already looked like the sure winner, but then came Shiffrin: The slalom queen ran away from everyone with the fastest time - including Vlhova, who had to ungrudgingly acknowledge the American's superiority. Holdener and Azzurre disappoint Co-favorite Wendy Holdener was only in 1th place after the first round, so she went to work with corresponding commitment. The Swiss woman increased her lead from time to time, but then gave up.

The Italian women experienced a race to forget. Symbolic of the situation in the slalom team: Federica Brignone, who only trains sporadically in the pole forest, ended up as the best Azzurra in 13th place - ahead of the specialists Irene Curtoni and 20-year-old Lara Della Mea, who ranked on her debut in Lienz 24 at least finished in the points. There is no improvement in sight in the near future - and South Tyrolean women were searched in vain on the start list.

Shiffrin show continues in Lienz

That was a demonstration of strength: Mikaela Shiffrin also won the slalom in Lienz after the giant slalom, celebrated her 64th World Cup victory and once again showed the competition what she was capable of.
