Shiffrin about dreams, shitstorms and her great love

Even as a child, Shiffrin dreamed of winning all the World Cup crystal balls in one season. But that is no longer realistic for the American. “I now see how difficult it is to train for every discipline. It's extremely tiring." That's why the 23-year-old has other goals: "I want to win a race in every discipline. I'm still missing the Super-G. In the overall ranking I want to win the slalom, giant slalom and overall World Cup.”

The special love story with ski friend Faivre In the interview, Shiffrin also talked about her boyfriend Mathieu Faivre, who is also a ski ace. “It's incredible to have Math by my side. We tick together, rejoice and comfort each other. “With Math I can share things that I wouldn’t trust anyone else,” says the American, who rarely sees her lover in the winter.

How did the couple meet? “When he won the giant slalom in Val d'Isère in December 2016, I congratulated him. A week later I won in Sestriere, he sent me a text message. So we started writing. In Aspen at the World Cup final, where men and women are together, I wrote to him: 'Don't we want to meet?'” But: Faivre didn't write back at first. “Maybe he didn't see the message straight away, I don't remember. I was definitely angry and shouted: I'll never write to him again! Shortly afterwards we met” – a little later things clicked. “I can’t deal with the consequences of a shitstorm” The 23-year-old is very active on social networks - but she couldn't deal with the consequences of a shitstorm. “When I started in the World Cup, I was really shy, ashamed of everything. Then I learned that I won't get very far if I always worry about what others think of me. If I put something on Instagram and there are 80 nice comments and one bad comment, the one negative comment hits me,” says Shiffrin, who says she reads almost all the comments. “I know I have to stop,” smiles the talent of the century.
