Shiffrin spoils the party for Vlhova

If after the World Championships in Cortina you thought that Katharina Liensberger could tip the balance of power in the slalom, you were proven wrong in Jasna. Petra Vlhova and Mikaela Shiffrin clearly distanced themselves from the competition, only Wendy Holdener kept up with the two exceptional athletes. Although the newly crowned slalom world champion Liensberger set off fireworks in the decision, she was unable to do anything against Holdener, Shiffrin and Vlhova. First, Holdener undercut the Austrian's already sensational running time. Then an unleashed Shiffrin went one better before Vlhova also drove strongly, but was unable to intercept the American. So the 25-year-old ruined the home win for the Slovakian of the same age. She consoled herself with 80 points, thanks to which she gained ground in the overall World Cup compared to Lara Gut-Behrami. Before tomorrow's giant slalom the gap is now 107 points. Holdener came third, climbing onto the slalom podium for the 26th time – without ever having won a race in this discipline. The 23-year-old from Rovereto, whose season didn't go as planned due to persistent back problems, drove flawlessly, turned up the heat especially in the lower section and improved by 15 positions.
