Victory in Garmisch! The Paris bang before the World Cup

Dominik Paris struggled with his form for a long time in his comeback season after tearing his cruciate ligament. Especially in the first races, things didn't go as planned, although the Ultner always emphasized: "I have to keep working on myself." This work has now paid off: he drove in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where he had never won before He won the downhill on Friday and is on the highest podium for the first time since the Bormio triumph on December 28, 2019.

Just in time for the highlight of the season, Paris has found its top form again. In Kitzbühel at the end of January he already made people sit up and take notice with a third place and his first podium finish of the winter, and now his first victory followed almost a week before the World Cup descent in Cortina. This was the 19th World Cup triumph in the 31-year-old's career.

Immediately after reaching the finish line, he noticed that Paris had made a great trip on the Kandahar with start number 5: the Ultner left Beat Feuz and Matthias Mayer, both of whom were among the hot favorites, around 4 tenths of a second behind.

In the upper part of the route it was still a tough hundredth battle that Paris had with its two competitors. But the longer the ride lasted, the stronger the South Tyrolean became, who from Hell, a more technical section, put everything on one card and gained a lead of 4 tenths of a second. The Pusterer is also in great shape at the moment. However, he still lacks a bit of luck: after his two fourth places in Kitzbühel, he ended up in fifth place in Garmisch. Innerhofer put in a strong performance at Kandahar and was on par with Dominik Paris for a long time. But the veteran tackled some passages too directly, which is why he ultimately missed the podium by 3 tenths of a second. Nevertheless, Gaiser also impressively showed that he is much more than just an insider tip at the home World Cup.

Florian Schieder was also in action in Garmisch, for whom a World Cup ticket was still at stake. The Kastelruth native, who surprised with 14th place in Kitzbühel, ended up in 52th place with the high starting number 36. His two teammates Matteo Marsaglia (22nd) and Emanuele Buzzi (30th) ranked ahead of him. It is questionable whether Schieder will still be able to take part in the World Cup, but it cannot be ruled out. Riccardo Tonetti, meanwhile, ended up in 44th place.
