Ski buddy says emotional farewell to Barandun

Many ski aces have expressed their sadness for the young skier on social networks - including Gilles Roulin, Barandun's teammate of the same age and close friend. Roulin, who sensationally finished fourth in the Val Gardena downhill last year, says goodbye to his friend in a moving Instagram letter.

I admired you so much for your style. I have never met a more fearless person than you.

Watching you train was so inspiring. You have always given your heart. Your passion, your will, your dedication were impressive. I have never ever told you this. You probably wouldn't have believed me and yet I wish I had told you.

It was not your words but your actions that distinguished you. Not once did you complain in bad times. In good times you always remained humble. Without exception, you looked for and found the fly in your ointment yourself.

Sometimes you even had to tear one out that there was one in the soup at all. In those moments I would have liked to lend you my eyes so that you could have seen what extraordinary achievements you have achieved! You went your way irrevocably, unerringly and in a straight line.

Yes, you were stubborn, my God you were stubborn. If I weren't as stubborn as you, I might have tried to talk you out of something every now and then.

It was always so easy with you. I often had the feeling that all we had to do was look at each other and we would both know what the other was thinking. But not that it was often quiet because of that. On the contrary, we laughed because we had so much fun together. You never took yourself too seriously, so you could laugh at yourself. Not many have such qualities.

And despite that, or maybe because of it, you always knew exactly who you were. You haven't pretended for a second, you've never bent yourself. You never had to play a role, you always remained yourself. I could trust you with everything. Your reliability was unique.

You always had new projects. Your curiosity was great and your knowledge considerable. You never had to boast about that. Because you were well aware of your qualities.

As you know, I always enjoyed skiing. What you will unfortunately never know - with you the joy was ten times greater every time .
