Ski scandal shortly before the Olympics? That's it

A few days before the start of the Olympic Games in Beijing, a frightening report is clouding the mood. The focus is on the much-discussed quota places in alpine skiing.

No topic has been as hotly discussed in the ski circus in recent weeks as the quota places for the Olympic Games. The Austrian Ski Association even suspected manipulation. Now a report is causing additional controversy.

What is scandalous is not the fact that exotic athletes can go to the Olympic Games and some top athletes have to stay at home. All officials will have carefully checked and evaluated the process. But what is a scandal is that some places became free (bought out?) and that the Austrians grabbed hold of them. It would have been decent to carry out such an action together and not confront the others with a fait accompli. It almost looks like a set-up game in favor of the Austrians (good competitors gone = more medals).
