Ski star Feller rails against FIS: “They have no idea”

The reason for this is the racing calendar for the new season. There will be more races added to the already busy program next winter. Last year there were 42 races for men and 40 for women, but for the new season there are 46 and 43 respectively.

While the fans are likely to be happy, many athletes are critical of the development. For example, Manuel Feller, who doesn't mince his words and in the interview with laola1 sends harsh criticism towards the FIS: “In my opinion, this is decided by people who no longer have any idea about today's top-class sport. They’re too far away.”

And further: “I criticized it massively last year because it cannot be compared to any other sport. A boxer has a maximum of two fights a year, a footballer has a maximum of three games a week. We fly to four different countries in one week and carry luggage like no other. And they still squeeze something in here and there,” says Feller.

Feller admits that he makes money from the races and lives from it. “I also know that skiing is a winter sport and the races all have to be accommodated in a few months. But at some point, in my opinion, it's just too much, at some point it's over," complains the North Tyrolean, who uses the World Cup in Åre as a negative example. “You fly from Åre to Stockholm for the city event and a day later you fly on to Bansko - even though you have a two-week World Cup on your hands. I don’t think I need to tell anyone that that’s not intelligent.”
