This is how the Swiss ski president wants to change the World Cup

The Swiss Ski president, who is considered a possible successor to FIS boss Gianfranco Kasper, announced in the tabloid View an insight into his ideas workshop. Lehmann doesn't want to revolutionize the Alpine ski circuit, but he does have a few reforms in mind.

The parallel races are a thorn in Lehmann's side. The Swiss criticizes the lack of fairness, which was undeniable, especially at the World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo. But the Swiss doesn't want to write off the parallel races completely. He says: “The format has been tweaked too much in recent years – unfortunately not all for the better. If you want to save discipline, you have to react quickly and consistently.” More speed racing, more evening racing Lehmann wants to give the speed specialists more opportunities to fight for the overall World Cup. This has hardly been possible for Dominik Paris & Co. so far, because there are significantly more technical competitions than downhill runs and super-G races. One idea would be: 44 races, eight of which are parallel or combination competitions. The remaining 36 races would be divided equally between downhill, slalom, giant slalom and super-G - so nine events per discipline. An exciting idea from Lehmann is to integrate the ski crossers into the Alpine World Cup. Lehmann: “I have had this vision for some time. Skicross has a lot more to do with alpine skiing than with freestyle skiing. A gradual approach should be aimed for.” The Swiss also wants to tackle the injury problem – in the form of prevention and projects. Lehmann was not clearer about the many knee injuries.
