Summer of comebacks: Many ski aces are returning

The most illustrious name that was missing from the Italian ski team last season is Elena Curtoni. The Super-G specialist tore her right cruciate ligament during giant slalom training in November. She completed her last race to date at the start of the 2017/18 season in Sölden in October. She has been training with the rest of the team on the Stelvio Pass since Thursday.

Elena Fanchini also had to end the season early due to her tumor diagnosis in January. However, after successful therapy, she is back in advanced training and would like to fully attack again.

Karoline Pichler, a young woman from Petersberg, is really unlucky. One can only hope that their ordeal is finally over. After three serious injuries (January 2015: meniscus tear; February 2016: cruciate ligament tear; October 2016: cruciate ligament, collateral ligaments, meniscus), the fourth serious knee injury followed in September 2017, diagnosis: tear of the right cruciate ligament. However, the 23-year-old has not let herself get down and is working hard on her repeated comeback.

Gasslitter still has to be patient The season started very promisingly for Laura Pirovano with 19th place in the giant slalom in Sölden. But it was her last World Cup race to date. At first she was slowed down by a shin injury, and after just recovering she tore her cruciate ligament and meniscus in January 2018.

Verena Gasslitter from Castelrotto (torn cruciate ligament in December 2016 and shin injury in September 2017) and Francesca Marsaglia have to be patient for their comeback and wait for snow training. You are currently completing advanced training away from the slopes.

On the men's side, Peter Fill is back after his muscle injury and is preparing for the new season with the men's speed team in Livigno.

This week the slalom men are also training on the Stelvio Pass. Together with Manfred Mölgg and Fabian Bacher, Stefano Gross and Guiliano Razzoli are also on the South Tyrolean glacier.

Summer of comebacks: Many ski aces are returning

Last winter was marked by many injuries, some of them serious, for the Italian ski aces. Women were particularly hit hard. It is therefore with great pleasure that we welcome some of them back on skis.
