Sosio Junior World Champion in Super-G – Gasslitter 9.

Just three weeks ago in Davos, Sosio climbed onto the European Cup podium for the first time in her career when she finished second in the Super-G. Now she has celebrated her next big success by winning the junior world championship title in the same discipline. In the Super-G, only four Italians have achieved this feat so far, namely Elena Curtoni in 2011, Nadia Fanchini in 2004, the Welschnofner Karen Putzer in 1997 and the Val Gardena Isolde Kostner in 1993.

The South Tyroleans, however, were unable to compete for the medals. Verena Gasslitter finished ninth in the Super-G, 1,35 seconds behind the winner, while in the subsequent combined slaom (the Super-G was also counted for the Super Combined) she fell back to 15th (+3.50 seconds). Nicole Delago from Val Gardena, however, finished the two races in 14th place (super-G) and 30th place (super combination).

As for the men's races, the bad weather forced the organizers to change the program. The Super-G planned for Tuesday was postponed to Wednesday, but the combined slalom was held in the afternoon. At halftime, the Swiss Loic Meillard is in the lead ahead of the Austrian Marco Schwarz (+0.30) and his compatriot Anthony Bonvin (+0.60). Emanuel Buzzi was the best “Azzurro” (+0.94). Hannes Zingerle from Val Badia is in 13th place after the combined slalom (+1.68).
