Sports director Hans Pum is leaving the ÖSV after more than 40 years

The 64-year-old ÖSV sports director completely unexpectedly announced his resignation when his contract expired at the end of July. Until then, the Upper Austrian wants to carry out his duties fully.

Neither Pum himself nor a representative of the ÖSV could be reached for comment on Thursday evening. It is entirely possible that Pum, who will turn 4 on July 65th, will simply resign from his position when he reaches retirement age, unlike other important officials in the ÖSV.

Pum has been sports director since 2010 Pum was extremely successful as Alpine Director of the ÖSV from 1996 to 2010. The next career leap followed in 2010 after a restructuring in the ÖSV. After Toni Innauer's departure, until then as sports director for ski jumping and Nordic combined, he became sports director for all divisions. His main task was to ensure synergies between Alpine, Nordic and biathletes as well as snowboarders and ski crossers and to abolish divisional thinking.

Pum originally wanted to win Olympic and World Championship medals on the slopes himself, but due to a lack of training opportunities, this project remained just a dream. Instead, Pum concentrated on training to become a qualified sports teacher as well as a state-certified ski instructor and football coach. The exemplary ÖSV career finally began in 1977, in which Pum worked his way up from fitness coach for the men's European Cup to head of marketing and the association's successful alpine director.

One of the focuses of the meeting on Thursday fell into the background because of the news: it was also about a reorientation of the ÖSV in terms of cross-country skiing after the incidents at the Nordic World Championships in Seefeld. As it had already decided at a presidium meeting on March 22nd, the ÖSV remains committed to cross-country skiing, albeit under changed conditions. On Thursday, the head of the Nordic Training Center in Eisenerz, Christian Schwarz, was commissioned to develop a concept. This should be submitted to the Executive Board by the end of April.
