Stuhec surprises again – Schnarf is back in the top 10

When she was asked by a TV reporter whether she would have dreamed of this result two days ago, the likeable Slovenian only smiled sheepishly into the camera. Ilka Stuhec is the discovery of the still young season so far. On Friday she won the first downhill of the winter and thus her first World Cup race, on Saturday she improved and was at the top again in the end.

Low starting numbers have an advantage The conditions in Lake Louise were not good - so the start of the descent had to be moved down shortly before the start of the race. A look at the list of results shows that the drivers with a low start number still found relatively good conditions and therefore had an advantage: Places one to seven are occupied exclusively by women with a single-digit start number. Ilka Stuhec started the race with the four, showed a clean performance, was a little behind in the middle section, but came out trumps in the finish and thus relegated Lara Gut (Switzerland) to second place with a lead of 0,11 seconds. The Hungarian Edit Miklos came third - another surprise.

Hanna Schnarf is consistently at the top of the results list: in seventh place on Friday, she also put in a respectable performance on Saturday and finished the race 1,35 seconds behind in 10th place. Schnarf was therefore second best “Azzurra” behind Nadia Fanchini, who in turn took eighth place.

Stuffers always get better After recovering from a torn cruciate ligament, Verena Stuffer continues to work her way back to her old form and ended up in 19th place. The young talents Nicol Delago and Verena Gasslitter, on the other hand, had little chance: both started the race with high starting numbers and in bad weather. Delago narrowly missed the points in 31st place, while Gasslitter missed out more clearly in 39th.
