Ted Ligety has the little crystal ball safely in his pocket – Mölgg 14.

The slope on Podkoren is Ted Ligety. In his seventh start on the Slovenian slope, the American celebrated his seventh victory today. The world champion was already in the lead after the first run and was able to defend his place at the top in the decisive run. He won in 2:35,43 minutes ahead of the Austrian Marcel Hirscher and the French Alexis Pinturault. For Ligety it was his sixth giant slalom victory (World Cup and World Cup) of the current season.

Hirscher was able to further extend his lead in the overall World Cup today. His closest rival Aksel Lund Svindal from Norway took sixth place in Slovenia.

Manfred Mölgg, who was the only South Tyrolean to qualify for the second round, seemed unable to cope with the high temperatures and soft snow today. After the first run he was still in ninth place, but then he slipped back to 14th place. In the end he was 2,32 seconds behind the winner. Nevertheless, the man from Enneberg still occupies third place in the discipline rankings with a lead of 15 points over Alexis Pinturault.

The fastest “Azzurro” was Massimiliano Blardone. He finished eleventh. For Florian Eisath from Eggental and Alex Zingerle from Gadertal, the race was over after the first round. With a 24th place in the discipline ranking, Florian Eisath was still able to get his ticket to the giant slalom final in Lenzerheide. He will be there together with Mölgg, Blardone and Simoncelli.

Tomorrow there is another slalom on the agenda in Kranjska Gora.

The small ball in the giant slalom can no longer be taken away from the three-time world champion from the USA. With one lap to go, he secured victory in the discipline classification in Kranjska Gora with his triumph in the giant slalom. Manfred Mölgg had to settle for 14th place today.
