Thomas Dreßen is now the best German downhill skier in history

For the 2018 Kitzbühel winner it was the third World Cup victory of his career; the 3-year-old from Mittenwald celebrated all three victories in the downhill. This makes him number 3: No German has as many downhill victories in the World Cup as Thomas Dreßen. There were only five athletes from Germany who were able to win at least one race in the World Cup in the supreme discipline of alpine skiing.

In the first downhill run of the new season in Lake Louise on Saturday, Dreßen was only 1 seconds faster than Dominik Paris from Ultimo, making it the German's closest victory and for the first time he didn't snatch the victory from Beat Feuz's nose: At In his victory in Kitz, Dreßen was 0,02 seconds faster than Feuz; in his victory in Kvitfjell, Dreßen was 0,2 seconds faster than the Swiss.

"I do not know what to say. “That’s just awesome,” said the German on Saturday in Canada, his voice still scratchy from his cold. “I never would have thought that.”

Exactly one year to the day after his Fall into Beaver Creek Dreßen was back again: “When I think about it: a year ago I was stuck in the net and hurt like hell. I'm not pain-free now, but at least I can drive. But the fact that it works out like this is crazy,” said Dreßen, commenting on the success.

“Of course I would have liked to win,” said Dominik Paris after the start of the downhill race in Lake Louise, “but when I saw Dreßen driving on Followay, it was clear to me that he was really fast. Nevertheless, second place is a great start to the new season.”

In the Super-G on Sunday (20.15:2019 p.m. CET), Dominik Paris wants to continue his impressive series in speed races: In 30, the 5-year-old was always on the podium and celebrated 11 victories. Only in Wengen did he “only” come 21th. A side detail: Last year, Paris failed in the Super-G in Lake Louise, finishing XNUMXst.

As in the downhill, Super-G world champion Dominik Paris takes to the track with start number 7, Peter Fill (Castelrotto) has number 26. The Gaiser Christof Innerhofer will not return to the race track in Beaver Creek until next week.
