Death saddens ski star Shiffrin

Shiffrin didn't let on, but there was still great sadness in her heart. The reason: Just a few days before the first race of the season in Sölden, the ski star's grandmother died at the age of 98. US media woman Megan Harrod confirmed this to Schweizer Blick. “That’s true, but Mikaela doesn’t want to talk about it,” it said.

A serious loss for Shiffrin. The 24-year-old had a special relationship with grandmother Pauline. When Shiffrin won the slalom in Kilington (USA) in 2017, Grandma Pauline cheered in the finish area. The ski star was overjoyed and even burst into tears: “The fact that my Nana could see this is unbelievable. I can not describe it. I’ve never been as proud as I was in that moment.”

Shiffrin will still carry her grandmother in her heart and always have her with her. Mikaela's middle name is Pauline - based on her grandmother.
