Tonetti surprises everyone in the first round

Riccardo Tonetti, who started the race with start number 20, raced up to fifth place and thus created a great starting position for the second run. He is currently six tenths away from a podium place and just over a second from half-time leader Marcel Hirscher.

The Salzburger leads the rankings ahead of three French local heroes. Second-placed Mathieu Faivre is only one hundredth behind Hirscher.

However, the first round did not go as desired for the other Azzurri. Luca De Aliprandini from Nonstal is in eleventh place, while the two South Tyroleans Florian Eisath and Manfred Mölgg will tackle the decision in 25th and 27th place respectively. Speed specialist Dominik Paris, who narrowly missed out on a top 30 placement, is no longer there.

The second run in Val d'Isere is scheduled for 13 p.m.
