Dream start! Innerhofer and Paris race onto the podium

First race and such a show: “Inner” and “Domme” started the World Championship winter with a bang. The Gaiser raced to second place in Lake Louise, his colleague from Ulten was one position behind. The two South Tyroleans were only beaten by the Austrian Max Franz.

In wonderful weather, Franz celebrated a “start-finish victory”: Starting the race with number one, the Austrian immediately set a benchmark, which was narrowly missed by Christof Innerhofer (start number two). At the end of the ride, the Gaiser took second place, a good three tenths of a second behind.

How much these times were worth became clear a little later. Stars like Matthias Mayer, Kjetil Jansrud, Aksel Lund Svindal and Peter Fill bit their teeth on the brands of the two leaders. Until Dominik Paris left the starting gate with number 13, was even level with Franz at one point and ended up in third place. Because the big favorite Beat Feuz was unable to confirm his strong training performance, Franz's victory and the South Tyrolean's double podium place were wrapped up in dry towels. Innerhofer immediately gets serious The podium place is particularly satisfying for Christof Innerhofer. Last year, as is well known, the 33-year-old had to wait until the last race of the season (Super-G in Are) to finish second and take the long-awaited podium place. This year, however, it worked in the first attempt. Dominik Paris, on the other hand, has proven that he feels comfortable in Lake Louise. After his downhill victory in 2013 and third place in the Super-G in 2014, the Ultner clinched his third podium place in the Canadian mountains on Saturday.

The race didn't go as planned for Peter Fill: the Kastelruth native, who is not yet in top shape due to a muscle injury, ended up in 23rd place. Werner Heel collected no points in 55th place.

There will be a Super-G in Lake Louise on Sunday evening at 20 p.m.
