Outstanding in Aspen: Kilde makes big booty

The relatively short route in Aspen was ideal for good gliders: flat at the top, flat at the bottom, steep in the middle. It can be summed up like this, briefly and succinctly. Someone who knows how to win on this slope is Dominik Paris. The Ultner won the downhill here in 2017. Paris also left a good impression on this day, but the South Tyrolean was unable to keep up with the top aces around Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. He took 7th place ex aequo with Florian Schieder.

With the piste conditions changing and sometimes soft, Schieder set up the first benchmark. The Castelrotto driver lost a lot of time in the upper, flat section, but showed a sparkling clean ride in the technically demanding sections. Shortly afterwards, Paris pushed herself out of the starting house. As usual, the veteran tackled the race energetically. After a good flat section, he didn't hit the steep slope as he wanted. Paris left the ideal line several times, lost his lead over Schieder and set his time.

Kilde showed what is actually possible: The Norwegian was characterized by an extraordinary gliding time, then drove on steep slopes as if on rails and took almost a second off Paris and Schieder. This time made the competition desperate. Both James Crawford, who drove riskily, and Marco Odermatt, who excelled on the steep slope, lost more than half a second. Kilde had double the joy that evening: he not only won his 21st World Cup victory, but also secured the second downhill ball.

Sejersted risks too much Although the visibility improved significantly, no one could come close to his time. Neither did Adrian Smiseth Sejersted, who was leading the race before it was stopped on Friday. The Norwegian took an extremely high risk, was on course for a podium, but was eliminated shortly before the finish - to the chagrin of his enthusiastic teammate Kilde. Christof Innerhofer came in 21st.
