Outstanding: Freestyle catapults Grassl forward

187,43: This number is enough to classify Daniel Grassl's performance. It expresses the number of points that the Merano native received for his freestyle from the technical panel. As a result, he beat his previous best performance (182,73) by almost five points and moved from twelfth place in the short program to a strong seventh place. Grassl has more than achieved his goal of getting into the top 10.

To the music of Interstellar and Armageddon, Grassl presented three quadruple jumps: the Lutz right at the beginning, followed by the flip and the Rittberger - he did all of them without any major problems. And the youngster didn't show any weakness in the following jumps either. This resulted in a technical score of over 100 points. He left behind even the two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu, who had to give up his title. He also knew how to convince in the artistic part, the part in which Grassl is considered to be somewhat weaker. Overall, he performed the fourth best freestyle – outstanding.

Meanwhile, the superstars of the scene put on a big show. Led by the new Olympic champion Nathan Chen, who follows in Hanyu's footsteps, the opponents outdid each other with maximum difficulty. In the end, the American, who received 218,63 points from the judges in the free skate alone, came out on top against Yuma Kagiyama. Shoma Uno from Japan came third, his compatriot Hanyu only fourth.
