Crazy! Nadia Delago takes bronze, Sofia Goggia silver

One thing in advance: None of the medal contenders from Italy's extremely strong speed team won the gold medal. This went to the Swiss downhill world champion Corinne Suter. But the special stories in the last quick competition at the Winter Games in China were written by two Azzurres.

On the one hand, there is Nadia Delago, who has already finished in the top 8 five times this winter, but has never been on the podium so far. She initially chose a very narrow line on the challenging Olympic slope “The Rock” and then glided smoothly towards the finish in the lower part of the route. The 1 finally lit up there. Although she was pushed back two positions in the end, no one could take bronze from her after her fantastic drive. South Tyrol's fifth precious metal at the Winter Games in China was secured.

The 24-year-old from Wolkenstein couldn't hold back her emotions at the finish area and fell into the arms of her older sister Nicol Delago with tears in her eyes. The latter never really found the ideal line during her journey and had to settle for eleventh place. But this didn't dampen the joy in the Delago family and in Italy's ski camp.

The party atmosphere at the Azzurre was fueled by Sofia Goggia, who also wrote an incredible success story. The Bergamasque woman, who has won all the downhill runs in which she finished in the past two years, left her start open until the end. A fall at the end of January caused her several injuries. In the end, however, she walked into the starting gate with a torn cruciate ligament and then put in one of her inimitably aggressive rides. Goggia took 41 hundredths off Delago and temporarily moved into first place. Suter snatches Goggia Gold away Goggia then had to grudgingly give up his place in the sun. With her calm, error-free ride, Suter was 16 hundredths faster than the Italian. The 27-year-old from Central Switzerland grabbed the gold medal and with it her first precious metal at the Olympics.
