VIDEO | Here it severely undermines Italy's Super-G hopes

Now, of all times, Mattia Casse has been hit hard: The 30-year-old from Piedmont became the most consistent Super-G rider in the Italian team last winter, with a string of top ten placements and 6th place in the discipline rankings Dominik Paris behind him. A serious fall during giant slalom training in Cervinia ended Casse's upward trend for the time being. He got stuck on a gate and was thrown meters through the air by a small bump. The speed specialist suffered a fracture in his left ankle, which had to be treated with surgery on Monday. Casse will not return to the World Cup until January at the earliest.
