Four South Tyroleans at the night slalom on Friday

Nine Azzurri will be at the start of the last ski race before Christmas. Including four South Tyroleans. In addition to the veterans Manfred Mölgg and Patrick Thaler, Riccardo Tonetti and young driver Fabian Bacher will also be at the start.

Weak South Tyrolean slalom season so far

There was little to gain for the South Tyrolean slalom runners in the two races of the season so far. The only notable result was Mölgg's ninth place in Levi. Thaler from Sarner dropped out of the slalom opener in Finland and was not qualified for the second run in Val d'Isère. Just like Tonetti. The man from Bolzano is not getting up to speed yet and did not qualify for the second round in Levi and Val d'Isere. Most recently he came twelfth at the European Cup slalom in Obereggen. Fabian Bacher, who came second in an FIS slalom on Wednesday, will compete in his second World Cup race of the season in Madonna di Campiglio. He has competed in three World Cup races so far. He dropped out once and didn't qualify for the second race twice (most recently in Val d'Isere).

The remaining Azzurri are Stefano Gross (he led in Val d'Isere after the first run and finished sixth), Giuliano Razzoli, Tommaso Sala, Federico Liberatore and Cristian Deville.

Kristoffersen wants to repeat last year's victory

The Azzurri in Madonna di Campiglio are not among the big favorites. Their names are Marcel Hirscher and Henrik Kristoffersen. While the Austrian is already back in top form after breaking his ankle in the summer, the Norwegian won on the Canalone-Miramonti slope last year. Kristoffersen is doubly motivated because he no longer wants to get a 1,70 second package - like in the giant slalom in Alta Badia - from his worst competitor Hirscher.
