Vinatzer and the slightly different companion: “Ready for Zagreb”

Alex Vinatzer is not only an excellent skier, but also a passionate ninja fan. This passion even goes so far that this year he will be accompanied by one of these fictional fighters at every race - namely in the form of a picture on his racing helmet. “This is Naruto,” explains the man from Val Gardena, “a ninja from an animated series. I really like the series and this character.”

When Vinatzer made his first podium finish in Zagreb a year ago, he posted a self-made video on his social media channel in which he appeared as a ninja. “We were on the Stelvio Pass with the team before the season and my colleagues said I should make a video like that. And if I ever get on the podium, then I should post it. No sooner said than done,” smiles Vinatzer, who is always in a good mood.

The 21-year-old's mood is really good at the moment. 4th place at the start of the slalom in Alta Badia, 3rd place just one day later in Madonna di Campiglio - and all of this despite an appendix operation that the Wolkensteiner had to undergo shortly before the start of the season. “I definitely wouldn't have expected the first two races to go like this. “I wasn’t 100 percent fit yet and was always tired, especially towards the end of the race,” said the man from Val Gardena, who now feels a lot better physically. “Theoretically, things should be going well in Zagreb,” says Vinatzer.

The slalom specialist has finally reached the top of the world. That's why he doesn't hide when it comes to this season's goals: "I want to get into the top 7 of the slalom start list, celebrate a World Cup victory and see to win a medal at the World Cup." First tour of Zagreb at lunchtime Vinatzer now has plenty of opportunities to cause a sensation in the World Cup: There are 7 appearances in Stangenwald in January. This dense program has recently caused criticism. “There have been a lot of races, but I see it as positive. So you have several chances. The failure rate is high in slalom, so you have the opportunity to make amends straight away.”

In any case, the wait for the slalom aces is over on Wednesday: the first run will take place at lunchtime at 12.15:15.30 p.m., and the decision will take place at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. In addition to Vinatzer, the other South Tyroleans Manfred Mölgg and Simon Maurberger are also there.
