Vivien Insam fights brilliantly alone

Before the season there was a bitter message for slalom specialist Vivien Insam: she was demoted from the World Cup squad to the “national interest” squad. These athletes are on their own, which means they have to train alone and cover their own expenses. There is hardly any support from the association. This year Insam was only allowed to train with the national team once; otherwise she only worked on her form with the police sports group. “I have to thank my sports group very much for that,” said the woman from Val Gardena. Although a season like this is anything but easy, Insam is very happy with how it went. “I had a consistent season in slalom in the European Cup. In the giant slalom it went well at times, but there was a bit of a lack of consistency,” said the 23-year-old, who finished in the top 15 in the European Cup five times, with a fifth slalom place in Gstaad Saanenland being her best result. Strong results at the national championships At the end of the season, Insam also came into the spotlight several times. At the Italian Championships in Livigno she won the slalom bronze medal and at the German Championships she even won gold in this discipline. “I was very happy about that because I beat, among others, Lena Dürr, who recently achieved top results in the World Cup,” said the Wolkensteiner, who then also won silver in the giant slalom at the German championships as well as silver in the slalom won at the Austrian championships. It remains to be seen whether Vivien Insam's performance will be enough for promotion to the World Cup group. “I haven’t heard anything yet, but it’s still early,” said the woman from Val Gardena. In any case, she made a recommendation. And even if the World Cup group isn't enough, Insam is fighting: "I definitely want to continue."
