Vlhova strikes in Lenzerheide – bitter race for Shiffrin

The Italian ski ladies and the Slalom World Cup are not a successful relationship at the moment. With Irene Curtoni, only one “Azzurra” qualified for the second run in Lenzerheide. Thanks to a good second run, she ended up ninth, at least.

Mikaela Shiffrin doesn't have to worry about qualifying for the second run. Instead, the American recently rushed from victory to victory. There are now 41 in the World Cup and they are 22 years old. Even in Lenzerheide it looked as if there was no getting past Shiffrin. But then she made a mistake on the final slope and dropped out. A second place would have been enough for Shiffrin to secure the small crystal ball for the Slalom World Cup early.

This played into Petra Vlhova’s hands. The Slovakian is the only athlete who was able to beat Shiffrin in a special slalom this season - now for the second time. In Lenzerheide, Vlhova had a strong second run after the first round she was only sixth . In the end, Vlhova won by a tenth of a second ahead of Sweden's Frida Hansdotter. Wendy Holdener from Switzerland came third.
