Vlhova like clockwork: victory over Shiffrin

In the last three slaloms of last season, the winner was always Petra Vlhova. And the Slovakian is also at the top in the new season: In an extremely exciting race in Levi, the 3-year-old had the better end and prevailed with an 25 hundredths of a second lead over returnee Mikaela Shiffrin. It was impressive how the physically extremely strong Slovakian defended her half-time lead with an aggressive and risk-taking second run and made it 18-1 in the duel with Shiffrin.

It wasn't enough for the American to win this time, but her return to the ski stage was still a success. For Shiffrin it was the first race in 300 days. 300 days in which her life was completely turned upside down, after all she suffered a terrible blow of fate with the sudden death of her father, after which she even briefly thought about ending her career. Now “Mika” is back again – even if the sovereignty of old days is not quite there yet. Given the long break, that's understandable.

Third place went to the Austrian Katharina Liensberger, who was the only one who came close to holding a candle to the two slalom giants, 3 seconds behind. Fourth-placed Wendy Holdener was already almost a second and a half behind winner Vlhova. 4 Azzurre score straight away There were no South Tyroleans in Levi, but 5 Azzurres qualified for the second round. In the end, veteran Irene Curtoni achieved the best result with 11th place, after she was still in 6th place after the first round.

Marta Bassino's performance deserves special mention. The giant slalom specialist scored slalom points for the first time on Saturday and ended up in 18th place. At halftime she was even in 9th place. Trentino's Martin Peterlini (20th) and Marta Rossetti (29th) also collected World Cup points, while Federica Brignone was eliminated from the decision at half-time after a good 14th place.

The next women's slalom is scheduled for Sunday in Levi. The first run starts at 10.15:XNUMX a.m.
